Device for Generating Acoustic Signal Statement of Government Interest.

Abstract

A device for generating an acoustic signal includes a housing having a cylinder bore and a piston seat therein, an acoustic piston in the cylinder bore, a biasing spring for biasing the piston toward the piston seat, a retaining member for releasably retaining the piston in spaced relation to the piston seat, and a pressure responsive piston for releasing the retaining member in response to a predetermined water pressure. The device is operative by immersing it in a body of water until the water pressure at a predetermined depth causes the pressure responsive piston to release the retaining member, so that the acoustic piston is propelled into engagement with the piston seat to produce an acoustic signal.
