Universal Data Signal Interface for Underwater Vehicles.

Abstract

A universal data signal interface for underwater vehicles transmits and receives data to and from a host computer located in a first section of the underwater vehicle, and a number of data communication devices disposed generally in a second section of the underwater vehicle, remote from the first section. The universal data signal interface provides data signal protocol and format type conversion between the data communication devices, which include both analog and digital data signal protocols and the host computer. The universal data signal interface is disposed in close proximity to a plurality of data communication devices. The universal data signal interface is coupled to the plurality of data communication devices through one or more selectable analog and digital input/output ports. The interface receives analog and digital data signals from the communication devices and converts the signals to a data signal protocol and format type to be received by the host computer. The interface also receives signals from the host computer and converts the signals into analog and digital data signals for transmission to the data communication devices through selected analog and digital output ports.
