Lightweight High Damping Porous Metal/ Phthalonitrile Composites.

Abstract

Accordingly, it is an object of this invention to produce light structural materials having good structural and acoustic damping properties. It is another object of the present invention to reduce noise derived from the operation of machinery. It is a further object of the present invention to provide a material with high structural strength, high acoustic damping, superb high temperature properties, and high flame resistance. These and other objects are achieved by impregnating a metal foam with a phthalonitrile polymer.
