Method for Making High Molecular Weight, Extended pi-Conjugated Polymers

Abstract

A process for making a high molecular weight, extended Phi-conjugated polymer from a monomer comprising a heterocyclic, benzylic or phenolic ring is described. The S process comprises reacting a Lewis acid with: (a) the monomer and (b) a polyhydroxy moiety, the polyhydroxy moiety being linked covalently to the monomer or present in free form.
