Optimum Cost Design of Precast Concrete Buildings,

Abstract

During the course of the project, an IBM contouring package was used to investigate the sensitivity of the primary optimization variables. Although this was of little value to the manufacturer, the cost surfaces produced gave the authors invaluable information on the unimodality of the cost response surface and helped in selecting the most appropriate optimization algorithm. This paper describes the four programs and shows some of the data obtained during the cost response surface sensitivity analysis. It shows the drawings produced by the final program and draws conclusions regarding the merits of cost optimisation.
