The Use of Plastic Media Trickling Filters--Two Case Histories,

Abstract

Over the last ten years, Jones & Henry Engineers has investigated the use of fixed film biological processes at a number of locations in the Great Lakes area. Approximately half of these studies have been directed toward the treatment of high strength waste and half toward the production of nitrified effluents. In some cases, the investigations have included rotating biological contactors and trickling filters. This paper discusses two case histories on the use of plastic media trickling filters. One of the case histories deals with the treatment of high strength wastes at Kalamazoo, Michigan and the other with nitrification of the Lima, Ohio secondary effluent.
