The Airborne Expendable Bathythermograph for Oceanographic Measurements

Abstract

The Airborne Expendable a Bathythermograph (AXBT) system is described as an oceanographic instrument. The results of recent calibrations and field tests characterizing the accuracy and performance of the latest models are reported. It is shown that instruments produced by different manufacturers can produce varying results even though they all meet the same Navy specifications.
