Observations on the Vertical Coherence of Gulf Stream Meanders,

Abstract

This paper examines the vertical coherence and structure of Gulf Stream meanders in the region just downstream of Cape Hatteras where the Stream flows down across the continental slope. Here the meanders are known to exhibit rapid spatial growth, yet the amplitudes are still small enough so that the convoluted paths associated with eddy formation may be avoided.
