Nunn Amendment,

Abstract

The Nunn Amendment is the name given to Section 917 of the FY 82 DOD Authorization Act passed in early December 1981. Under this Amendment there are two types of unit costs reported: the total program acquisition unit costs, and the current procurement unit costs. The unit costs are compared to the baseline unit costs as reported in the 31 March 1981 SAR's. For each quarter of FY 82, the Amendment requires the Program Managers (PM's) of the weapon systems which reported SAR's on 31 March 1981 to submit a quarterly unit cost report not later than the seventh day of the month following the close of the quarter to the appropriate Service Secretary. Additionally, a special unit cost report is required from the PM if there is 'reasonable cause to believe' a breach has been incurred in the weapon system at any time during any quarter of FY 82.
