The Regression Line Is Always Linear or Is It?

Abstract

The paper discusses, illustrates, and contrasts the Multivariable Linear Regression Model with the Multivariable Nonlinear Regression Model. Emphasis is placed upon technique and analysis of the curvilinear function. Identified are a series of procedures and steps to follow in analyzing the data base as a means of curvilinear specification. An example is fully illustrated using first a linear approach and then a nonlinear approach. Results of this example are examined for justification and ultimate logic. The analysis presented is an overview only with the objective being to review the nonlinear model and encourage creative, reflective analysis of the data base. Numerous resources are listed in the bibliography. An indepth review of these materials will enhance understanding and appreciation of the Nonlinear Modeling technique. (Author)
