Postbuckling Behavior of Graphite-Epoxy Panels Loaded in Compression,

Abstract

This report deals with: To study the postbuckling behavior of unstiffened and stiffened graphite-epoxy panels loaded in compression; To identify the failure modes of compressively-loaded graphite-epoxy panels loaded in compression, and To determine the effects of low-speed impact damage and circular holes on postbuckling strength. Parameters governing the postbuckling behavior of orthotropic plates have been determined; Postbuckling strength is limited by high transverse shear forces and skin-stiffener separation; Postbuckling response can be predicted accurately; Circular holes and low-speed impact damage can reduce postbuckling strength, and Impact damage location can also influence postbuckling strength.
