EDP Training - A Developing Need,

Abstract

The United Kingdom National Computer Centre (NCC) Is Not Unique in offering training materials to developing nations, but it is one of the few large, hardware-independent, training authorities and it is well placed to develop and conduct long-term, co-ordinated training strategies. Commentators agree that local skills training is the key to success. Unless it is provided there will be a severe, perhaps tragic, waste of resources which must inevitably lead to a slowing of development. However, in the end it is up to the nation concerned, to face the challenge of providing sufficient well-trained personnel for its computer industry, and to take advantage of the help which is available. Here is a field where the record of the 'developed' economics is not too impressive. Developing nations should act now to avoid repeating mistakes.
