Delivery Mechanisms for Industrial and Technological Information in the South-East Asian Region,
Abstract
South-East Asia is the fastest developing region in the world today. Mostly dependent on agriculture and their mineral and other natural resources, many South-East Asian countries have opted for a balanced agro-industrial development. Industrial development has been thought of as a means to employment and eventual prosperity. Most of these developing countries, with rapidly growing population and inadequate capital resources, have given high priority to the promotion and development of small and medium scale industries-to complement the capital-saving technologies that are brought in by large enterprises, mostly multinational companies. But small industries are often ineffective because of lack of technological know-how. A 'total' approach to promoting the establishment of small business requires that modern technology be accessible to them. The sharing of technology-of processes, and expertise-among developing countries could be effective in upgrading the capabilities of small enterprises.
