Unwanted Responses in Quartz Low Frequency X-Cut Bars,

Abstract

The unwanted modes in quartz 5 degrees X-cut low frequency resonator bars have been recorded and charted over the range of dimensional ratios l/w 5 to 10 and l/t 50 to 170. They have been found to occur at even multiples of the frequencies of coupled l/t flexural and length torsional modes and a unified spectrum has been obtained by plotting flw/t against w/l. A simplified theory of these coupled modes is developed and is found to give good agreement with the observed spectrum. (Author)
