Damages of Structures due to Ice and Wind,

Abstract

One of the biggest damages of the structures, mainly of the electrical power lines in Yugoslavia happened on February 17, 1979 due to the simultaneous effect of the ice accumulations and strong wind. The damages of the other numerous building structures, telegraph lines, forest complexes etc., were reported as well. In order to investigate the details the causes of the damage and to get certain experiences for the needs of design, construction and maintenance of such structures, we have analyzed the meteorological and aerological conditions, synoptic situations, surface observational data referring to the conductor icing, wind and the field measurements and investigations immediately after the damage, too.
