Development of an Ice and Snow Load Transducer to Simulate Transmission Line Loading,

Abstract

A simple and reliable transducer has been developed to measure and record ice and snow accumulation as it will occur on electrical transmission lines. Field studies are underway to compare the output from this device with loads measured on adjacent instrumented transmission lines. Plans have been made to develop a mechanical recording version of the transducer which would record maximum ice loads without the need of an electrical power supply. (Author)
