Ultrastructural Studies of Rat Fasciculi Gracilis Unmyelinated Fibers After Contusion and DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) Treatment,

Abstract

Research findings prompted us to examine the ultrastructure of the adult rat spinal cord following contusion and DMSO treatment. The specific objective was to describe the ultrastructural features of fasciculi gracilis unmyelinated fibers during the early stages of recovery (first 4 days) after contusion and treatment with DMSO and saline. The implications of preserving such fibers for potential functional return were considered and will be discussed subsequently.
