Immunologic Defense Mechanisms in DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)-Treated Balb/c Mice: Immunologic Memory and Natural Killer Cell Activity,

Abstract

Natural killer cell activity was measured by chromium-51 release from YAC-1 tumor cells following a four-hour incubation at 37 deg C with spleen cells from Balb/c mice that had received five alternate daily injections of 67% DMSO (0.10 m1). NK activity was assessed two days after the final injection when mice were six weeks of age. Cytotoxicity, measured at two different effector:target cell ratios, was not notably different from that of saline-injected controls, indicating that NK activity was unimpaired by DMSO treatment.
