SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) Resonator Stabilized Oscillator,

Abstract

A systematic approach to the design of a feedback RF oscillator using a two-port SAW resonator as the primary frequency control element will be presented. The tradeoff between oscillator pull range and stability will be discussed. Oscillators have been developed which are optimized for minimum manufacturing cost in the UHF range. Over 100,000 oscillators have been successfully used for over one year with no known failures in the field. Data will be presented on the aging characteristics of oscillators using FET and bipolar transistors. Also, the interaction of oscillators pulling and temperature stability has been extensively investigated. (Author)
