Design Aspects of Loose Buffer Tube Fiber Optics Cable,

Abstract

The theory and operation of cables which employ loose buffer tubes to contain optical fibers is discussed. These cables permit tradeoffs between physical strength, temperature range and structural dimensions. Specific examples show how the materials and cable construction can be controlled to yield the desired performance.
