Possible Applications of Diamondlike Carbon Coatings for Missile Systems and Lasers,

Abstract

Hard carbon coatings appear to be quite promising candidates for a variety of applications which include obtaining (1) more erosion-resistant missile domes and (2) higher flux density laser coatings. Problems such as thickness uniformity, film stress, and absorption coefficient still have to be worked out. If they can be overcome, better infrared optical components will emerge.
