Hard Carbon for Environmental Protection of FLIR Optics,

Abstract

A production process for coating hard carbon on germanium has been developed. Coating with a 10 micrometers QWOT has been shown to provide efficient single layer antireflection coating which has about 4% absorption at that wavelength. This carbon coating has been found to have outstanding environmental resistance especially towards particulate abrasion as measured by the Grittington Abrasion Test.
