Statistical Data on Anomalous Propagation in the Tyrrhenian Sea Using an X-Band Link,
Abstract
Anomalous propagation is heavily dependent on climate. The Mediterranean climate is particularly rich on ducting phenomena. An X-band link has been established between Vesima, near Genoa (transmitter) and Leghorn (receiver) with the intent of gathering data on existance and repetibility of ducting in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The link distance is 87.5 nautical miles. The heights of the transmitting and the receiving antenna re 5 mt. over the sea level. Data of signal intensity are recorded every half hour. Data and evaluations from a first period of working are presented in this paper. Also a relationship between ducting and climatic stability is presented. (Author)
