Optimal Reduced Order Controllers for Discrete-Time Linear Systems with Partial State Estimation,

Abstract

The solution to the standard steady state LQG problem is a controller whose order equals the order of the plant model. For many high order plant models, a reduced order controller which is easier to mechanize can be used with good performance. A methodology is described for solving the discrete-time, steady state LQG problem with the constraints that the controller be of reduced order and that linear combinations of the controller states estimate particular plant model state variables. Formulas for simplifying the gradient calculations are introduced. (Author)
