Sustained Military Operations with Particular Reference to Prolonged Exercise,

Abstract

According to existing informations the land-forces of the Warsaw-Pact-Countries will have the possibility to fight with undimished severity around the clock for days (and weeks possibly) in respect to their personnel capacity as well as in respect to available technological preconditions. For want of adequate strength of troops the NATO-countries have to put into consideration as a counterbalance the Rationalization of military working-places by use of more sophisticated technical means as well as by prolongation of duration of missions with the consequence of temporary partial or total sleep-deprivation. To some extent for other motives ran tests about effects of sleep-deprivation on (military) performance will be analyzed critically and alternatives point out for testing of questions arising in context with this problem. Especially important with this seems to arrange aspects and influencing factors according to their practical significance and consequently to weight appropriate experimental intentions. For instance according to our impression although of essential practical importance, the consideration of motivational influence on human performance goes short in the most investigations. It is reported about own experimental experience to this aspect, especially about the possibility to provoke motivation according to peace-time-conditions and its effect on willingness for performance.
