An Overview of the Applicability and Use of Artificial Intelligence Techniques to the Processing of Communications and Noncommunications Signals,

Abstract

The proliferation of communications and noncommunications signal types throughout the world has created a dense and complex signal environment. Traditional statistical or deterministic signal processing techniques cannot effectively process many of these types of signals. To approach comparable human signal processing performance, artificial intelligence signal processing techniques are being applied within this domain. However, artificial intelligence is not a science but a collection of techniques. Theoretical and practical problems arise when using these techniques. This paper discusses these issues. (Author)
