Control Data ICEM (Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering and Manufacturing) - A Vendor's IPAD-(Integrated Programs for Aerospace-Vehicle Design)-Like System,

Abstract

Integration has been the key to the IPAD program since its inception. IPAD's goal was to integrate aerospace applications used in support of the engineering design process. It is still the key goal, now having evolved to a design centered around the use of data base management, networking, and global user executive technology. Control Data Corporation has been developing an integrated CAD/CAM(Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) system modeled in part of after the IPAD program and containing elements of the program's goals. The total program is called ICEM. Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering and Manufacturing. The ICEM program started with the acquisition of AD-2000 from Manufacturing and Consulting Services in 1977 and Synthavision from Mathematical Analysis Group, Incorporated, in 1978. AD-2000 has evolved over the years to a production geometry creation and drafting system now called CD/2000. Synthavision has grown to be a full-scale 3-dimensional modeling system, the ICEM Modeler.
