The Changing Roles of Military Wives: An Analysis of Work-Related Values and Lifestyle Variables,
Abstract
This paper reports the preliminary results of a survey to investigate the significance of the changing roles of military wives who are attempting to find a balance between their desire for the responsibility, satisfaction, and economic independence of a job/career, and the desire to have children and a home life. The sample for the analysis consists of 75 civilian military spouses who responded anonymously to a questionnaire, accompanied by a transmittal letter, distributed through the office of the Military Family Member Employment Program established under a Civilian Personnel Office-sponsored effort at the Fort Monmouth Army Base in New Jersey. One purpose of the study is to provide the Military Family Member Employment Coordinators with a broad overview of the client users of the program. This, in turn, will serve to enhance the effectiveness of the Program as it relates to planning and programming employment counseling services geared specifically to meet the needs of military spouses.
