Training Decision-Makers to be Creative: A Management Process Model,

Abstract

The predictable structure of our military bueaucracies reinforce traditional decision-making processes. At the same time, complex technologies and environments suggest more creative decisions. This research focuses on how experience decision-makers can be trained to be more creative. Our purpose is twofold. First we examine how decisions are made. Examining models of decision making may help us to better understand the nature of what we do and where creativity fits in. Second our task is to study the research in creativity, developing a model that relates it to decision making. The major focus is integrating the two models--decision-making and creativity--in a theoretical framework. This is a first step; before a training program can be developed, the theoretical roots must be verified.
