On the Quasi-Periodic Microstrip Snake Antenna with Metal Trough Backing,

Abstract

This study tackles the radiation mechanism of a microstrip with a quasi-periodic undulation supported inside a metal trough of a rectangular cross section that acts as a choke on the closed side and provides the radiating aperture on the other. The strip is excited in a travelling wave mode in the neighborhood of a central frequency that corresponds to a 2 pi-phase shift per travelling a Meander period. Hence, the transverse current components to the axial length enhance each other coherently so as to constitute the main source of excitation to the radiating aperture. (Author)
