Multiple Source DF (Direction Finding) Signal Processing: An Experimental System,

Abstract

The MUltiple SIgnal Characterization (MUSIC) algorithm is an implementation of the Signal Subspace Approach to provide parameter estimates of multiple signals from the observed voltages received on an array of M antennas. In it, the solution of the multiple source DF problem is the intersection of the signal subspace (obtained from the received data) and the array manifold (obtained via array calibration). The MUSIC algorithm has been implemented to conduct experimental demonstrations of the DF and COPY performance of the approach under scenarios and conditions generally regarded as difficult to impossible in traditional systems. The demonstration system consists of an eight-element antenna array, an eight-channel receiver and digitizer, and a minicomputer with disk storage to process the digitized data.
