Extended Performance Hydrofoil Program,

Abstract

This paper traces the origin of the Extended Performance Hydrofoil (EPH) concept from the Hybrid Vehicle Investigations at the DTNSRDC starting in 1973. The potential mission applications of the EPH are discussed along with extensive model tests, computer simulation, and cavitation analyses. The work completed, design status, and future plans are also described for a demonstration vehicle based on the HIGH POINT (PCH-1) R&D hydrofoil.
