Planing Surface C sub f,

Abstract

For model-full scale resistance estimates the C sub f value from the ATTC/ITTC line is used to scale the frictional resistance in calm water resistance tests of planning hulls. In this contribution C sub f values from published data on planing plates, prismatic hulls, and Series 62 models are compared to the corresponding ATTC C sub f values. Here 0.003 C sub f sub 1 0.004 which is below the ATTC line Rn 2 million and above the ATTC line for higher Rn. While the differences are within engineering accuracy + or - 10% of the ATCC line, the force vector analysis of the planing test data is appropriate to verify the extent of turbulent flow on the planing surface.
