Immunotherapy of Trauma,
Abstract
The attractiveness of immunomodulator therapy for infectious disease in burns is that it abrogates the potential development of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria, and in addition, the spectrum of activity of an immuno-therapeutant may be considerably greater than that observed using the classical antibiotic therapy. The present studies have focused on a clinically relevant model of immunosuppression, thermal injury, in examining the therapeutic efficacy of synthetic immunomodulators. The model of immuno-suppression was used to optimize the anti-infective activity of the immuno-therapeutants.
