Field Applications for Robotic Materiel Handling,

Abstract

This paper presents a description of interests and activities involved in the use of robotics and allied technologies for Army field applications in materiel handling roles. This presentation includes: (1) Motivators for using robotic technology in this new context; (2) Similarities and differences between technology required for robots used in industry and those of interest for field roles; (3) A description of some of the Army groups with charters in the robotics research and development areas; and (4) A description of two materiel handling, field oriented, robotics demonstration systems.
