Nonlinear Ultrasonic Characterization of Oxygen Impurities in Titanium,

Abstract

Titanium specimens containing oxygen impurities ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 percent by weight have been examined using nonlinear ultrasonic techniques. Second harmonic amplitude deviation from the expected square law behavior has been observed. This is consistent with theory relating dislocations and impurity content to ultrasonic and third harmonic generation in materials. The results of these tests are presented and directions for future work outlined. (Author)
