Avoiding Serious Bird Strike Incidents,

Abstract

Bird hazards to aircraft can create serious inflight emergency conditions if the pilot and crew are not prepared to handle the situation. As a pilot who has experienced two serious bird strikes that resulted in emergency landings and as a biologist who has spent the last nine years working on bird hazards to aircraft, some personal observations may assist other pilots in dealing with a midair collision with birds. Some of the aspects of the bird-strike hazard are examined.
