Characteristics of Dry Friction Damping,

Abstract

This paper contains a summary of a literature survey pertaining to the overall problem of estimating damping due to dry friction forces induced at interfaces of vibrating components. The survey clearly indicated the complex processes involved during rubbing of one component relative to another bringing into play a host of parameters. Very limited data, especially of a fundamental nature, appears to be available in regard to dry friction in a vibratory environment. (Author)
