Material Damping of Carbon/Epoxy Composites by Means of Free-Free Beam Resonance Tests,

Abstract

Results are presented of a testing program which characterizes the principal (0 deg and 90 deg) damping properties of unidirectional composites incorporating Celion carbon fibers. Data for 0/+ or - 45/90s specimens are also presented. Use of free-free beam resonance tests eliminated errors introduced by support conditions. This test method also enables the determination of Young's moduli and the shear modulus in the plane of bending. (Author)
