Sizing of Discrete Viscous Dampers on a Flexible Body in the Presence of a Fixed Controller,

Abstract

The authors investigated the effects of discrete viscous dampers on a spacecraft's rigid body control loop. The damper's affect on the open loop gain and phase margins, the shape of the open loop gain-phase plot and the flexible body dynamics were determined as a function of the viscous damper's strength and the mass connected to the damper. The damper was sized for those configurations where the added damper improved the system robustness. (Author)
