Sensitivity of High Explosives against Hot Fragments,

Abstract

A procedure has been developed for testing the reaction of high explosive to the heat of hot fragments. Fragments are heated up to 1000C and injected into HE and the reaction noted. The most surprising result was that, at all tests performed on this device with steel spheres of 10 and 20 mm diameter even up to temperatures of 1000C, neither a fast reaction nor deflagration, nor even a detonation occured.
