Design and Evaluation of Assembly Bay and Assembly Cell Complexes,

Abstract

As part of the overall modernization and expansion of the Pantex Plant, Amarillo, Texas, the Department of Energy engaged the Joint Venture of Gibbs and Hill/Ammann and Whitney to design new Assembly Bay and Assembly Cell Complexes. As part of this design, the firm was required to develop and design modified Assembly Bay and Assembly Cell Structures based on the results of previously performed structural/explosive tests of similar structures. Both of these structures will be used for the assembly and inspection of components of explosive/hazardous items. This paper describes the analysis and design of the protective features of the facilities. (Author)
