Safety Considerations for Renovation and Demolition of Facilities Contaminated with Chemical Agents,

Abstract

The principle objective of a safety program for renovation and demolition operations with facilities contaminated with chemical agent is to insure safety, consistent with mission requirements, is incorporated into the operations. All hazards that may be encountered during the operations must be identified, evaluated and eliminated or controlled to an acceptable level. This report outlines the major health and safety considerations that must be addressed during the renovation or demolition of a chemical agent contaminated facility. These safety provisions were developed by analyzing the renovation and demolition operations to identify potential hazardous conditions. Pertinent standards, specifications, regulations, training manuals, field manuals, and other related documents were reviewed to assist in specifying operational requirements.
