Evaluation of Two-Dimensional Carbon-Carbon Exit Cones Using Digital Pulse Echo Ultrasonics,

Abstract

A description of a digital ultrasonic system for pulse-echo evaluation of carbon-carbon rocket nozzle exit cones is given. Data-processing for quick-look display and for subsequent detailed analysis is described. Typical results of cone analysis are shown, describing means of ranking cones, and leading to further developments. These will correlate ultrasonic data to physical and mechanical properties, as well as to measurements of different NDE techniques.
