Evaluation and Optimization of TSNCO Method for Hydroxyl Analysis

Abstract

An analytical method for determining the hydroxyl content of hydroxyl-containing polymers was improved, optimized and evaluated for its applicability to a number of hydroxyl-containing materials. The method involves the reaction of the hydroxyl group with toluenesulfonyl isocyanate and subsequent acidimetric titration of the reaction product in a nonaqueous solution. The method is rapid, selective, yields reproducible results, and is widely applicable.
