Single Compound Molecular Weight Standards for GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatography): A Progress Report,

Abstract

The commercially available molecular weight standards for gel permeation chromatography are polymer fractions with relatively narrow and often not well defined molecular weight distributions. In addition, standards which are structurally or chemically similar to slid propellant prepolymers are not always available. Therefore, molecular weight distribution results for solid propellant prepolymers are often ambiguous. By using relatively simple synthetic procedures, single compound high molecular weight compounds have been prepared which can be used as calibration standards for molecular weight distribution determination of solid propellant prepolymers. To date esters up to 13,000 Daltons have been synthesized which can be used as standards for polyepichlorohydrin (PECH) or glycidylazide polymer (GAP) molecular weight distribution measurement.
