Design of Chronic Studies (Report of Ad Hoc Panel on Chemical Carcinogenesis Testing and Evaluation),

Abstract

The Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Toxicology Program formed an ad hoc Panel on Chemical Carcinogenesis Testing and Evaluation and charged it with responsibility to examine the current state of the science. The Panel was further requested to make specific recommendations to the Board regarding testing methods and the scientific, regulatory, and academic needs in this area. The Panel was divided into subpanels to deal with four major subject areas. These were short-term tests; subchronic studies and related issues; chronic studies and regulatory aspects. This paper is a summary of the work of the subpanel on chronic studies.
