New Fiber Optic Ribbon Cable Design,

Abstract

For the use in subscriber loop networks an optical fiber cable has to meet several requirements. These are high fiber count and the feasibility of economical mass splicing techniques as well as small diameter and low weight. To meet all these requirements we decided to use a cable design including optical fiber ribbons placed in a central tube. This cable construction is in principle well known. In this paper a new design of the ribbon and the cable sheath will be presented. (Author)
