Design Considerations for Short Haul Cables,

Abstract

The requirements of safe installation and use even of long lengths, economic splicing and branching as well as reduction of cable types lead to only two designs: The 'Maxibundle' design for fiber counts from 4 to 24 and the 'Minibundle' design for fiber counts from 20 to 100. With an expected average fiber content of 15 the first one will cover more than 50 % of the needed cables. It leads to a 'one-operation' cable, provides the fibers with a sufficient length margin and does not need steel wires as tensile elements. (Author)
