Single Loose Tube Cable Designs,

Abstract

Single loose buffer tube cable designs consist of a single tube placed in the center and parallel to tension elements and external sheathing. By comparison, traditional low fiber count loose buffer tube cable designs generally consist of one fiber per tube or multiple fibers per tube and fillers stranded around a central member. Several constructions of the single loose buffer tube design have been developed that are characterized by small cable diameter, compact construction, light weight, high mechanical strength and good flexibility. Data indicates that the single loose buffer tube cable design is suitable for outside plant use and in many applications, provides an alternative to conventional stranded cable designs. (Author)
